Murals: St Stephens

This great work at ST. Stephen’s church, Dalmuir, beside Clydebank, was begun early in the 21st century and is still ongoing in 2009. It will eventually take up more space than the Bayeux Tapestry! It is divided into ten sections.

The two largest murals, above the side chapels, have the theme of Light – the Light of God (Light in Darkness) and the Light of Chjrist (the Resurrection Dawn). The eight horizontal panels around the nave tell the story of Redemption – the journey to the Promised Land. All the panels are basically stylised landscape, with the text in Greek and English echoing Saint Stephen’s last words challenging his killers and reminding them of their true destiny.

Thirty talented and extremely brave women are creating these enormous canvas embroidery panels. You can catch up with the latest news on progress in my News and Views page.
